Center Introduction

The Center for Archaeological Science, Sichuan University is a multidisciplinary research platform established with the support of relevant departments of the university, integrating the multidisciplinary advantages of a comprehensive university, led by the School of Archaeology and Letters and Museums, and combining with at least fifteen faculties and departments, aiming at providing all-around scientific and technological support for the western region's archaeology, cultural heritage protection, display and utilization, in order to build up the leading archaeological experimental platform in China, the first-class archaeological research base in the international world, and the high level archaeology The purpose is to provide comprehensive scientific and technological support for the protection and utilization of cultural heritage in the western region.

The center consists of an archaeological dating laboratory, a molecular archaeology laboratory, an archaeological materials and cultural relics protection laboratory, a geomorphological archaeology laboratory and an archaeological resource library. "Relying on the rich archaeological resources in Southwest China and giving full play to the disciplinary advantages of Sichuan University, the center focuses on the frontiers of archaeological science such as the origin of ancient human beings and the evolution process, the origin of regional prehistoric societies and civilizations, the ancient crafts and technologies, and the key technologies of cultural relics protection, and carries out multidisciplinary synergistic innovations and deepens the international exchanges and cooperation, in order to explain the historical origins of the community of human destiny. the historical origin of the community of human destiny.

Since its establishment on November 18, 2022, the center has been based on three main directions, namely, the origin and spread of human beings in southern China, the process of civilization in southwestern China, and key technologies for the protection of cultural relics, to promote a series of cutting-edge topics for research, and has published more than a dozen papers in domestic and international renowned journals such as China Social Science and Science Advance. At the same time, actively promote the integration of provincial, local and municipal archaeological, cultural and scientific research forces, the establishment of the Archaeological Science Center of Sichuan University as the core, based in Sichuan, radiating southwest, affecting the whole country, with international influence of the regional archaeological research and innovation base.
