Moderator: Associate Professor Yuan Haibing (Center for Archaeological Sciences, Sichuan University)

Lecture Abstract:

The Konglongcun site is located in Jiaomuzu Township, Ma'erkang City, Aba Prefecture, on the upper reaches of the Dadu River. Dating back to approximately 5500-4900 years ago, it is the earliest, largest, and most content-rich Neolithic site discovered to date on the Western Sichuan Plateau. Since 2023, continuous excavations by the Sichuan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, covering over 10,000 square meters, have not only systematically revealed the remarkable wisdom of prehistoric peoples in adapting to high-altitude environments but have also provided groundbreaking new evidence for key academic questions, such as the formation of the "unity in diversity" pattern of Chinese civilization and the southward spread of cultures from the middle and upper reaches of the Yellow River.

Due to its significant academic value, the site was honored as one of the "Major Archaeological Discoveries in the Sichuan-Chongqing Region of 2024" and was shortlisted for the "Archaeology Forum of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences · China's New Archaeological Discoveries of 2024".
