For more than 30 years of practice, combined with the national major scientific research plan, and the completion of major hydropower projects and mine scientific research projects, a relatively systematic study has been carried out on the deformation and stability of slopes and landslides, numerical analysis methods, in-situ monitoring and feedback analysis methods. He has successively presided over or participated in 1 national "Climbing Program", 3 "973" projects, 1 key project of the National Natural Science Foundation, 2 major international cooperation projects, 4 general projects of the Natural Science Foundation, 4 major engineering tackling projects, 1 Hong Kong RGC project, 1 Knowledge Innovation Project of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and 3 provincial and ministerial outstanding talent funds as the person in charge or scientific research backbone. He has won 1 second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 4 first prizes, 3 second prizes, and 3 third prizes of provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards, 8 invention patents, 7 utility model patents, and published more than 170 papers, including more than 20 SCI indexed papers and more than 60 EI indexed papers. The paper "J.H.Deng, C.F.Lee, and X.R.Ge, Characterization of the disturbed zone in a large rock excavation for the Three Gorges Project, 2001: 95-106" won the R.M. Quigley Award nomination for the best paper of the year 2001 by the "Canadian Geotechnical Journal".
