Niu Zhipan, male, PhD, is an associate professor at Sichuan University and a master鈥檚 supervisor. He is also a member of the Academic Working Committee of the Sichuan Hydraulic Engineering Society. He is mainly engaged in basic theory and application research on water disaster prevention and control, safety science and disaster reduction, hydraulics, and river dynamics. According to national strategic deployments and industry development needs, he has conducted research on the harmonious coexistence of engineering construction and the surrounding environment. At the same time, combined with the complex geological environment in Southwest China, the large number and scale of mountain disasters, and the characteristics of disaster chains, he has carried out in-depth and systematic theoretical research and technical research on scientific issues such as landslide damming, mountain torrents and debris flow evolution, breach of barrier lakes and chain dam failures of cascade reservoirs, and disaster prevention and control. Up to now, he has presided over more than 10 scientific research projects, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China project, key R&D program sub-projects, 973 Program sub-projects, and major engineering technology research projects. He has published more than 20 papers in academic journals such as Landslides, Scientific Reports, Journal of Hydrodynamics, and Journal of Earthquake and Tsunami; obtained more than 10 national authorized invention patents; and published 1 monograph. The research results have been applied in mountain disaster prevention and relief, as well as some hydropower projects.
