Zhang Zhilong, male, Han ethnicity, born in April 1975, from Shangdu County, Inner Mongolia, holds a Doctor of Engineering degree, has postdoctoral experience, and is an Associate Professor. He serves as the Party Branch Secretary and Deputy Director of the Department of Geotechnical and Underground Engineering at the College of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering, Sichuan University. He also serves as a member of the Ground Rock Mechanics Committee of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering. In 1999, he obtained a Bachelor's degree in Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology from Changchun University of Science and Technology (formerly Changchun Geological Institute, now merged into Jilin University). In 2002, he received a Master of Engineering degree in Geological Engineering from Chengdu University of Technology. In 2006, he earned a Doctor of Engineering degree in Geological Engineering from Chengdu University of Technology. In 2006, he joined the Civil Engineering Postdoctoral Research Station at Sichuan University for postdoctoral research. After completing his postdoctoral work in 2008, he has remained at the university as a faculty member.
He is mainly engaged in scientific research on tunnel surrounding rock stability and advanced geological prediction, geological disaster prevention and control and slope engineering, and deep earth science and engineering. He teaches undergraduate courses such as Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology, Earth Home, Introduction to Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, and graduate courses such as Engineering Geology and General Geology.
As a key researcher, he has participated in 2 National Key Research and Development Programs, 1 Major Scientific Instrument Development Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (recommended by the department), 1 Integrated Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 2 Key Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and 3 General Projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has also led 1 sub-project of the National Key Research and Development Program, 2 open fund projects of the National Key Laboratory, and more than 10 horizontal research projects. His research achievements have won 1 first prize for Science and Technology Progress in Sichuan Province, 1 second prize for Science and Technology of the Ministry of Land and Resources, and 1 first prize for Science and Technology of the China Highway & Transportation Society. He has been granted 4 national invention patents and several utility model patents, and has published more than 20 academic papers (more than 10 of which are indexed by SCI and EI). He has been awarded the title of Young Backbone Teacher of Sichuan University twice and the Excellent Award for Undergraduate Classroom Teaching Quality of Sichuan University twice.
