[Thematic Education] Staying True to Our Original Aspirations and Courageously Undertaking the New Cultural Mission of the New Era—The Archaeology Faculty and Staff Party Branch Studies the Spirit of the "Symposium on Cultural Inheritance and Development"

Date:

On June 2nd, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the State, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, emphasized at the 鈥淪ymposium on Cultural Inheritance and Development鈥: 鈥淭o continue promoting cultural prosperity, building a strong cultural nation, and constructing a modern Chinese civilization from a new starting point is our new cultural mission in the new era. We must strengthen our cultural confidence, shoulder our mission, strive for progress, and work together to create a new culture that belongs to our era and build a modern Chinese civilization.鈥

In order to deeply implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's 鈥淪ymposium on Cultural Inheritance and Development鈥, the Archaeological Faculty Branch of the School of History and Culture conducted an in-depth study on June 30th in the conference room of the Institute of Tibetan Studies of Sichuan University, based on previous studies. The content included three parts: 鈥淩eading the Original Works, Learning the Original Text, and Understanding the Principles鈥, 鈥淩e-understanding the Central Tasks of the Party in the New Era鈥, and 鈥淏eing a Cultural Confidence Practitioner Based on One's Own Position鈥, so as to implement the spirit of 鈥淯ndertaking the New Cultural Mission and Striving to Build a Modern Chinese Civilization.鈥

First, Yuan Haibing, the secretary of the branch, led the reading of the full text of General Secretary Xi Jinping's speech at the Symposium on Cultural Inheritance and Development, and interpreted the archaeological community's role in the new era of 鈥淯ndertaking the New Cultural Mission and Striving to Build a Modern Chinese Civilization鈥. He mentioned that we should understand the essence of the spirit based on the original works, learn the original text to condense the spiritual core, and understand the principles to guide practical work. As grassroots cultural workers, we should take the original works, original text, and principles as the guidelines to more effectively promote the creative transformation and innovative development of outstanding traditional Chinese culture, and promote the construction of socialist culture with Chinese characteristics.

Jiang Hua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of History and Culture (School of Tourism, School of Archaeology and Museology), analyzed the spirit of the 鈥淪ymposium on Cultural Inheritance and Development鈥 in conjunction with the central tasks of the Communist Party of China since the 鈥20th National Congress鈥. He pointed out that in the process of uniting and leading the people of all ethnic groups across the country to fully build a modern socialist power, achieve the second centenary goal, and comprehensively promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with Chinese-style modernization, archaeologists have ushered in unprecedented social attention. We must take the construction of archaeology with Chinese characteristics, Chinese style, and Chinese manner as the lead to deepen the study of Chinese civilization history, promote the enhancement of historical consciousness and strengthen cultural confidence, so as to better understand the long-standing and profound Chinese civilization, promote outstanding traditional Chinese culture, and enhance cultural self-confidence to make our own greater contributions.

The participating party members conducted targeted discussions and speeches on strengthening cultural confidence, shouldering the mission, striving for progress, and working together to create a new culture that belongs to our era and build a modern Chinese civilization in the new era. Everyone said that as grassroots cultural workers, it is both our job and our responsibility, and we have an unshirkable duty. We must base ourselves on work practice, start from the bit by bit, do our best as cultural relics workers, civilization interpreters, and cultural educators, practice what we preach, and hold high the banner of cultural inheritance and development.

Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, General Secretary Xi Jinping has attached great importance to archaeology and cultural relics work. The Archaeological Faculty Branch will take the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's series of important speeches as a guide, emphasize evidence, strengthen academics, clarify the direction, and shoulder the mission. We will aim high, be down-to-earth, and be courageous in innovation, and strive to build archaeology with Chinese characteristics, Chinese style, and Chinese manner, and contribute the youth strength of Sichuan University archaeologists to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation!
