Application Guidelines for Open Research Projects of the Center for Archaeological Science, Sichuan University (2024)
In order to give full play to the platform role of the Center for Archaeological Science, Sichuan University, promote multidisciplinary research in archaeology and the transformation of archaeological science achievements, and enhance the effectiveness of organized scientific research, the 'Application Guidelines for Open Projects of the Center for Archaeological Science, Sichuan University (2024)' are now released as follows:
I. Funding Directions for Open Projects
This year's key funding directions are as follows:
1. Multidisciplinary research on archaeological remains unearthed from caves.
The focus is on funding scientific research on stone, bone, horn, tooth, and shell artifacts unearthed from cave sites.
2. Scientific conservation and technological development of cultural relics in extreme environments.
The focus is on funding scientific research and conservation technologies for fragile artifacts (such as lacquer, wood, bone, horn, tooth, and shell) unearthed from special preservation environments.
3. Multidisciplinary research on human-environment interaction elements in mountainous and plain areas.
The focus is on funding multidisciplinary research on ancient humans, animals, plants, and soils in Southwest China.
4. Research and development of cutting-edge archaeological science technologies and data application technologies.
The focus is on funding projects that expand the capabilities of cutting-edge information extraction technologies and data integration applicable to ancient material remains in the mountainous areas of Southwest China.
In 2024, it is planned to fund 5-10 projects in the above research areas, with general projects funded at 50,000 yuan and key projects at 100,000 yuan, with a funding cycle of 1-2 years.
II. Application and Review Process
(I) Applicant Qualifications
Open projects mainly fund non-permanent staff of the Center for Archaeological Science, generally requiring researchers with a doctoral degree and under the age of 60. Interdisciplinary teams are encouraged, and the applied project should not have received funding from other projects.
(II) Application and Review Procedures
1. Applicants should fill out the 'Open Project Application Form (see attachment)' according to the main funding directions of the open projects in archaeological science. The electronic version of the application form should be sent to the Center for Archaeological Science, Sichuan University, mailbox (scdxkgkxzx@163.com) before 24:00 on Thursday, September 5, 2024. Two hard copies of the application form (one original) with the official seal of the applicant's institution should be submitted to the center office before 18:00 on September 6, 2024. Late submissions will not be accepted.
2. The application deadline is 24:00 on September 5, 2024.
3. The review committee will review the submitted applications and select the funded projects on the basis of fair competition.
III. Open Project Management
(I) Fund Usage Management
1. The project leader is responsible for the organization of research work and the use of funds. Project funds are in principle used within the Center for Archaeological Science platform and will not be allocated to the applicant's institution.
2. Project funds are mainly used for the purchase of experimental reagents and consumables, travel expenses, etc. Some funds can be used for printing materials, page fees for papers, and related academic activities.
3. The remaining funds will be recovered after the project is completed.
(II) Project Management
1. Open projects should submit an 'Annual Project Implementation Report' every year; a 'Project Completion Report' should be submitted at the end of the project. The Center for Archaeological Science, Sichuan University, will hold an academic committee meeting or a correspondence meeting every year to review and exchange the progress of project research and evaluate the completion of the project.
2. After the project is completed, the project leader should submit the following materials, and the Center for Archaeological Science will establish a project file.
(1) Research work summary or termination report.
(2) Published research papers or patent applications, etc.
(3) Project fund settlement statement.
3. The research results of research projects funded by the Center for Archaeological Science or research projects in cooperation with the center shall be jointly credited to the Center for Archaeological Science and the institution of the project leader.
4. Projects that are well-executed and achieve significant results will be given priority for continued funding when applying again.
5. Once a project is approved, the center regards the project application as a binding contractual document and reserves the right to further process the project research content and results.
(III) Achievement Management
The research results obtained during the implementation of funded projects, including papers, monographs, awards, etc., must be marked as funded by the 'Center for Archaeological Science, Sichuan University Fund'. The marking method is:
Chinese: Acknowledgements: ... The relevant work of (Open Project Name) was funded by the Center for Archaeological Science, Sichuan University, and completed on the ... platform.
English: Supported by the Open Research Fund of Center for Archaeological Science锛孲CU锛坓rant NO.***锛�
